Gambling is only a click away
The dramatic growth of gambling
is not the result of a popular movement. Rather, it is driven by the
gambling industry with its high priced lobbyists and pie-in-the sky
promises. In response volunteer citizens have formed state and local
groups to oppose the spread of gambling. This is the Montana
state group of concerned citizens
Tom Shellenberg is enlisting the help of all concerned citizens of
Montana to mobilize and get an initiative on next ballot to
abolish gambling
Action Items:
-
We need to create a small board
to meet periodically to discuss strategy. Any volunteers?
-
We need to create a coalition of
organizations who are opposed to gambling. We need to convince the
Montana Council of Churches, the Montana Medical Association, all the
organizations that work with children and every other appropriate group
to join the coalition. A unified front will be more successful. Any
suggestions or contacts?
-
We are creating a web site for low cost
communications and a quick method of distributing petitions and other
information. I will be hiring this done.
-
Montana law permits cities and counties to
restrict gambling, even to the point of prohibiting gambling. We need
to determine the proper communities to work with to prohibit gambling.
Will your community go first?
-
The gambling industry is susceptible to
lawsuits similar to the massive claims against the tobacco industry. We
can put them out of business financially. There is one law firm ready
to create a team of firms to take on this industry. Who out there have
ideas?
Your support and
past efforts are greatly appreciated. Our efforts have begun to change
Montana. With future work and the elimination of gambling we will make
a Better Montana.
